Betfred Championship Round Up | Round 25

The penultimate round of the Betfred Championship got underway on Friday night, as York Knights travelled to Olympic Legacy Park and defeated Sheffield Eagles.

Mark Applegarth’s Knights took a confident 18-6 lead, before the Eagles struck back before half-time to tighten the scores.

A Liam Harris effort edged the visitors further in front and despite the latest of comebacks from the hosts with two tries in three minutes, the Knights held on to claim a win and move fourth.

There was plenty of Championship action on Saturday night, as Widnes hosted Toulouse. Joe Bretherton’s last gasp try for the French side was the only thing separating the two sides, as Sylvain Houles’ men look set to secure second place next week.

The Vikings, however, have slipped into seventh place heading into the final round. It's now a battle between York, Featherstone, Sheffield and Widnes for the remaining three Play-Off spots.

Both Featherstone and Wakefield recorded huge home wins, as the Rovers moved back into the top six.

Bradford came up short against Halifax, while Batley and Doncaster recorded wins over a struggling Whitehaven and Swinton.

Next week is huge for the Lions and the Raiders who must-win to avoid competing in the Championship Promotion Play-Off against the winner of the Betfred League One Play-Off Final.
